TRAC - Assistive Technology and Computer Training for People with Disabilities

TRAC provides training in computers and assistive technology to persons with visual, learning, and physical disabilities. Training is provided in either a classroom or individualized format. Course topics include:
Basic Keyboarding
skills
Basic Operations of Windows (file management and accessory programs)
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
PowerPoint
Internet Explorer
Outlook Express
Course topics are taught in conjunction with a screen reading software
such as JAWS for Windows.
Additional individualized training topics include:
Screen Magnification
software (ZoomText Xtra or MAGic for Windows)
Voice Recognition software such as Naturally Speaking
Reading Systems Using a Scanner (Open Book, Kurzweil 1000/3000, or WYNN)
Portable Note-taking Devices (PAC Mate and Braille Note)
Braille Displays
Braille Translation Software (Duxbury Braille Translator)
Courses are generally offered three times per year. View this years current course dates. Housing is available. Opportunities to enhance skills in the areas of Braille, cane travel, independent living, and academics can be arranged.
Since 1987, TRAC has offered a Summer Residential Program for high school juniors and seniors and college students. The program is designed to equip students with skills for college success. The program combines computer training, recreational activities, and opportunities to enhance cane travel and independent living skills. Students live on campus at TRAC and have an opportunity to adjust to living away from home before enrolling in their first semester of college.
